What is UTI?

UTI indicates urinary tract infection, is an infection that affects the part of the urinary tract.

How to determine UTI?

Symptoms of a urinary tract infection can vary.  Usually people have a burning sensation when they urinate. Sometimes they have a feeling they have to urinate often. Sometimes people feel as though they have to urinate but cannot or only can go a small amount.  Also you might see a change in color of your urine, it might appear pink, or even red.  People might have fever, or lower back pain.  It is important to have it checked out and evaluated before it becomes more serious, like a kidney infection.

Will a UTI go away on its own?

No.  You need to get an antibiotic to treat it.  Telehealth is a great way to get treatment. Simple, quick and easy!

What are the best things to do for a UTI?

Take your antibiotic, as mentioned above, but also increase the amount of fluids you drink, especially water.  Drink, drink, drink water (that is) we cannot stress that enough!!  Load up on Vitamin C for a healthy urinary tract health. You can take Tylenol or another pain reliever like Motrin if you have a fever, or lower back pain. Probiotics may be especially helpful when taking antibiotics to protect your gut.

Key notes for prevention are:  Women:  wipe and clean yourself from front to back, use fragrance free soaps and products, wear loose fitted clothing, and cotton underwear.

It is important to note that if you don’t feel better after taking the antibiotic for a day or two that you seek medical care and follow-up. That’s really important!
